APOLLO, PA location

MEI is seeking a Facility Treatment Operator to join its Waste Treatment Facility in Apollo, PA to ensure that pumps, conveyors, blowers, mixers, metering equipment and other wastewater treatment equipment are functioning properly. The additional expectations and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Knowledge of PLC and computer resources.
  • Knowledge of filter press operations.
  • Understanding of non-hazardous manifest receiving and shipping procedures.
  • Extensive training in proper procedures, laws and regulations, safety training, certification and testing, and sampling procedures.
  • Knowledge of waste blending and characterization of non-hazardous residual and municipal waste.
  • Ensure adequate communications with supervisor and subordinates.
  • Inform supervisor of problems with assigned resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment utilized.
  • Review assignments and common responsibilities.

Additional position Required information:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in the Wastewater Treatment field

Summary:

Performs a wide variety of tasks associated with industrial waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment and facility decontamination, and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Loads and secures necessary equipment and supplies. *
  • Pumps, transports and disposes of liquid and semi-solid wastes. *
  • Performs tasks involving the uses of vacuum truck services, bulk hauling services and high pressure water jetting. *
  • Works in potentially elevated noise levels. *
  • Works in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic, or corrosive. *
  • Works in confined spaces, including lifting in low clearance areas. *
  • Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including Class 6 and 8 trucks, utility trucks, vacuum trucks/roll-offs, tractor trailers, front-end loaders DO, pH, HNU, oxygen and hydrogen sulfide meters. *
  • Responsible for meeting and continue to meet all DOT mandated physical, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. *
  • Reports for all schedule work shifts before scheduled starting time, and works until scheduled stopping time, as required.*
  • Completion of paperwork daily. *
  • Climbs ladders and into and out of trucks, tanks, and various other containers. *

Summary:

Responsible for the coordination of a comprehensive health and safety program that includes hazardous materials and waste management service. Position is to ensure compliance with the facility, state, and federal regulations and guidelines regarding but not limited to hazardous chemicals, chemical waste, emergency response, and industrial service activities. Perform other duties as required by executive management of MEI. Working as part of a team with the training group.

Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Develop Health and Safety Procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and corporate policies.*
  • Develop and continually review corporate safety programs as they apply to company policies and procedures in order to evaluate their effectiveness while implementing improvements where needed to achieve maximum effectiveness.*
  • Assure compliance with MEI Respiratory Protection Program including fit testing and calibration of air monitoring equipment.*
  • Prepare reports and maintain records to comply with internal company requirements and external regulatory requirements.*
  • Develop and implement plans to provide for the safety and health of company employees at multi-sites.*
  • Provide technical assistance to site personnel to address Health and Safety issues. Assist in the development of task-specific job safety analyses.*

  • Act as a resource to the organization in the areas of training, safety expertise and arranging vendor services.*

  • Maintain MEI’s State Certified “Safety Committee”.*
  • Conduct all safety investigations relative to Accident, Injury, Environmental spills, near loss events and ensure that all (MEI, MEI Insurance and MEI customer) safety related reporting documents are completed in a timely fashion while maintaining compliance with all parties reporting requirements.*
  • Conduct Self Performance Self-Assessment (SPSA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Field Investigations (FI), Loss Prevention Observations (LPO), and Loss and near loss (L/NL) Stewardship.*
  • Continue to encourage, implement and train MEI Personnel in behavioral based safety programs identified as Loss Prevention Systems (LPS), Premier Education Center (PEC) and other customer required Safety training, and PPE use.*
  • Establish all MEI Internal Safety meeting Agendas and calendar of dates necessary to maintain compliance with company and customer policy and conduct Safety Reviews at Saturday Safety Meeting.*
  • Work with the training group in coordinating, developing, instructing, evaluating and maintaining company and client’s safety & health instructor schedule. As an Instructor you will evaluate course curriculum, provide and assist in instructor(s) training schedules and maintain/purchase necessary equipment and materials to ensure employees and clients are properly taught the knowledge and skills required to perform job functions safely.* Including:
  1. Identify, review, develop and implement new and current training curriculum by analyzing current manuals, videos, presentations material.
  2. Develop, organize and maintain system for course manuals, videos, presentation material and resources.
  3. Ensure all training curriculum meets and/or exceeds regulatory and company requirements. Proactively identify and implement improvements in training curriculum and courses.
  4. Assist in safety training schedules with Safety Training Department Administration and safety training instructional staff
  5. Establish current and implement new methodologies to evaluate training effectiveness.

  7. Coordinate training documentation with Safety Training Department Administration

Sells the following to new and existing customers: Industrial services, Transportation services for non-hazardous and hazardous waste disposal, Treatment Facility, Training Services offered, and Rental and Sales of Equipment.

Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
  • Prospect for new clients: *
    • Establish relationship;
    • Find needs and develop solutions;
    • Develop and implement new customer prospect plan.
  • Maintain relationship and Identify new opportunities with existing customers; develop and implement plans for increasing sales.*
  • Develop and complete sales proposals to include: *
    • Develop work proposals along with operations engineers;
    • Meet all requests for a proposal;
    • Prepare, analyze and validate sales proposal estimates;
    • Verify sales proposals against MEI service and product offerings;
    • Collaborate in the development of the sales proposal.
  • Makes sales presentations to customers and attend pre-bid meetings.*
  • Secure sales of the entire range of services provided.*
  • Manage and lead the overall sales process for each selling opportunity.*
